SOMETIMES THE WORLD EXPECTS TOO MUCH by Ryan Ritchie

I looked like a liar when I said I was
staying up late to get work done.
and yeah, I sent a few emails and
tossed around some ideas inside my head, but

the majority of what I’ve done this evening is
watch old lakers clips on youtube while
cutting some of the nastiest farts of
my life.

maybe that’s not work to everyone else,
but I was taking personal time
to clear out the cobwebs and nonsense
between my ears.

and that’s work to me.

RYAN RITCHIE is a 31-year-old writer from Long Beach. He has been published in Haggard & Halloo, the Freefall Review, Burning Shore Review, Dogmatika, vis a tergo, Myriad and a few others he would remember if he hadn’t just woken up.
